Supposedly Wii has the worst game rate going on right now of the three systems. Why? Because the Wii is steered towards kids, and adults that review it are pricks that think all games have to be for them. So of course there are going to be many kid games that adults will not like. This is with the exception of Boogie and other horrid evil games, which all systems have.

So what Wii games out there are a have to own? There any coming out that I should look into?

Right now I think the obvious ones are:
Zelda: Twilight
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy (though I have not played it)

But that's obvious.

That is not why they have the lowest ratings. They release games that use there peripheral system with very limited gameplay. The stories for them suck and the game play is inaccurate because of the peripherals. Every game they come out is not up to par with more in depth games and the titles that are doing well are the franchised titles. There basic business model is to advertise the casual gamer. This is cool and a great strategy but the users who are buying there games dont know any better. They dont read user reviews and only get sucked in by the advertisements. Then they become the angry customer but no one really listens to the them. If you could shoot out tons of crap games but make just as much money as a good game sure you would do it.

Ah, I'm mixed. Many of the craptastic games that are released for the Wii are either children's games (which the creators don't think require much thought) and movie games (that are released for all platforms). This spring the Wii has done a pretty decent job finding games with more spunk than last year.

Another thing I found out after I wrote this thread is that IGN, the magazine I was getting at the time that spurred the thread, is bias against the Wii. Which makes sense, considering who supports the magazine in the first place. I'm going to switch magazines to EGM and get a more unbias opinion about the system.

I did find some great Wii games out there with good titles. For example: Rayman, No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, BoomBlox, then the Nintendo games like Mario and SSBB. They're also doing a good job with the WiiWare thing right now, which is steering away from the companies that release absolutely shitty third party games and aiming at new gaming companies trying out new games. It's good to see some fresh blood in the market.

I have to agree, at least partially, with randomuser; a lot of games just use the peripheral for the simple reason of using it with no thought towards the game itself. However, there are two things I would like to note.

1. There are exceptions; there are games which use the peripheral to great effect while also having great gameplay, good story, or both. Metroid Prime 3 is a great example of having both if you play it even for just a couple hours you'll see what I mean. Mario Galaxy is a good example of having only one, in this case gameplay since the story is the typical Mario craziness, and is an extremely addictive title.

2. It's not Nintendo's fault; or at least not entirely. Don't believe me? Here's one example off the top of my head of third party developers making poor wii games; Red Steel from Ubisoft was an extremely rushed title that didn't get all the sword functionality that was originally promised and was, generally made worse in every way to get it out for launch. Horrible graphics, poor aiming/turning mechanic, etc etc; the only reason I bought it at all were the videos of gameplay from cons. As a side note; this particular third-party title also suffered from those commercials you were referring to just trying to show how cool swordplay would be with the wii... which it would be if Ubisoft hadn't made it essentially retarded.

That being said there are good games for Wii both remakes/ports and new. The DBZ games for Wii were WAY better than any of the ones I played on PS2 simply because the fights are so visceral and the motion controls are so well integrated into the fighting system. House of the Dead 2/3 was a great shoot down memory lane if you can get past the absolutely horrific voice acting. The new Mario Party has brought more people over to my house than when my friends and I used to get together for Goldeneye way back when.

So; there are great games for the Wii. There are also people just trying to make a buck. I don't see how this is any different from when the original Playstation was the only popular console with CD-ROM and, if you look at that library, was flooded with more crap than good games but was still a great system nontheless. Keep an eye out for good games and rent ones you haven't gotten personal recommendations from beforehand so that at least if it is bad: you aren't out fifty bucks.
