Title: Hellsing Ultimate

KrazyKelli - August 19, 2006 08:11 PM (GMT)
I finally watched it on a whim and it's gotta be the best hellsingish anime Ever! It's seriously way better than the tv series. Having everything important condensed into a movie-long anime episode has made it one of the coolest animes again. I LOVE how everything fitted together nicely. =D At first I was worried about how Victoria was portrayed way more cartoony than the rest... But after a point, it just became Hilariously in place (by being so out of place). Seriously, the anime would be too hard and stressful on me if she wasn't in it. I also love how they portrayed her in this shortened, better version than the tv series. Those eyes, woo! I also like her use of the gun - alas I can't compair it to the tv series at all.. I just Like it, alright?

Alucard seems the same, but alot more visually violent and psychotic than before, if that's possible. This has gotta be the best version of Anderson anyone would come up with. XD I like his dialogue and viscious use of his religion. Even Integra seems more dark and foreboding, but it - once again - fits in very well with the entire anime (though I would've loved to see more integra emotion, I believe it would've offset the entire thing due to Victoria's cartoonism. After all, not all women in the anime have to be the lighthearted side of an anime).

What were your thoughts? By the credits, I have this vague feeling that they're going to make another Ultimate episode. Any idea if they are?

I saw this episode, and I for one wasen't too fond of it. Though it was good, over all darker than the TV series, but the cartoony look killed it for me. I'm really big on serious story = serious art. DOn't get me wrong, the art was good, but I didn't think it really fit the theme that well.

The positives I liked about it were the new art and the new style of the entire OVA.The art was amazing and the animation was nice and gorey and dark and all of that. Gotta love the action sequences and all of that.

Things that I didn't like.....were the pacing of it all. Maybe its because I already know the Hellsing storyline. But, everything just sorta seemed to breeze forward at an insanely fast pace. I liked the build up of the TV series and all of that. But with this, it seemed like everything moved like a blurr....and there weren't really too many differences. Maybe they just decided to make this OVA to knock out the initial first block of the mangas that everyone already knows from the manga / original TV series. But meh...

The big thing that I absolutely hated about this OVA was the OST. The TV series' OST was edgy and unique and rockin'. This one had none of that cool vibe that the TV series' one had. Just a cliche'd symphonic crap with some techno beats and the ocasional guitar riff. There wasn't any ambience, no build-up, and no jammin' grooves with blurry lyrics that add a surrealisitc element to it. The original Hellsing OST was soooo good in ways I can't even describe. This OVA's OST was just....meh. Bleh. Meh bleh feckitty blagh. At best.

But, I do think they'll be making more sequels for this. So who knows? This is only the first OVA...it might get better as they push out more sequels.

Which version did you see, Ranc? I just found that there are two. Hellsing Ultimate and Hellsing Ultimate - Digest for Freaks. The first is over a gig large and about an hour long, the second is 200 to 300 mb and 30 minutes. After watching Digest for Freaks with some disappointment, I found that it's the same as regular Hellsing Ultimate, but there's literally 30 minutes of little parts that stretch the story lopped off. There's so much they cut out that it's disgusting how fastpaced they made everything.

I wish I knew why they made a cut up version of the ova.

I saw the 50 minute version of it....and I still thought it blew by way too fast. I totally loved the art style of it. I had no clue they made a 30 minute version. A 30 minute version that tries to cover all of the plottage that the 50 minute version did? I can imagine that must be nothing but "LOL ACTION DEATH SHOOT GUNS BANG BANG BANG!".

But yeah....To confirm, it was the 50 minute OVA.

KrazyKelli - August 21, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
That's about it, actually. They took out the parts where the characters showed any real emotions sides, "DEATH SHOOT BANG BANG EVIL!" and any parts that had emotions were only at most 3 seconds long. Really makes me question the sanity and impatience of some people.

Giving an update. A Hellsing Ultimate 2 came out and was subbed by someone. I'll be watching it soon =]

I didn't know there was a 30 min verson, I saw the 50 min myself.

Well I saw episode two and well, I loved it. At first I didn't like the art, but it worked much better in this second episode. I was grinning with anticpation, even though I knew the story well, with every moment. By the end I was looking forward to seeing alucard defeat that freak.

I finally saw ep 2 just now. You're right, it's really really good. ALOT different than what they did in the tv series and, um, I'd compair it to the manga but, er, I just don't have that much manga laying around. Hopefully that'll change come me b-day.

I like how Integra isn't helpless in the roundtable room. And how she saves Seras from... Well, don't wanna ruin it for everyone else ^^` but you know what I mean if you've seen it. The two guys that invade Hellsing HQ are also alot more evilish and violent. It rules =]

Watched part 2 today... Wow! Insanely awesome! Alucard is way more insane in this version, but no complaints on my part. Can't wait to see the next parts. Should be awesomely good. The fights have definitely become more intense, and a bit more gorey. Should be fun ^_^

Rancor - November 13, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the 2nd part of this definitely kicked the entire groinal area as far as animation goes. I looooooooooooooooooooooveeeeeeeee the ultra violence. Love it! I couldn't get enough of all those bodies exploding and all those limbs flying. That one guy with the blonde hair also dominated with that knife. Soooooooooo coooooooooolllll~

I still hate the music though. They need to combine that groovalicious base-line guitar rock with this OVA and it'll be perfect. So far, the ultra-violence makes up for it. I love how explosatastic each of these fights get. Everything is just getting so bloody and it really makes me happy.

PHD - November 13, 2006 05:09 AM (GMT)
Therefore... Overviolence, and gore makes AR members happy! ^_^

Just picked up the Hellsing Ultimate OVA DVD yesterday, and I really loved it! I've read all the Hellsing manga books, but had only seen a couple episodes that from the series that originally aired in Japan. Glad I got to see the first episode in it's newly animated presentation. I also love the way Victoria is protrayed in this one, and the cartoonish art works well. Found another trailer for Hellsing OVA that's not included with the 2 disc limited edition. You can see it here: http://tinyurl.com/ym34zk
Does anyone know when the second OVA will be released?

KrazyKelli - January 4, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
Hey, I checked up on bestbuy and sure enough they are selling the OVA on dvd now. ^^` Wow they're bloody quick with bringing that to the US. The second OVA was already fansubbed online, and you can easily download the eps on bittorrent or get them sent to you on streamload (or was it mediamax now?... Mediacrap...)

Definately a good story. Like Ranc said, aside from the music it's much Much better than the tv series.

Eiji - January 17, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
I hope they make a third episode soon.
