Title: Gates to Sector 03

MWeaver - November 3, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
The gates stand open, and random scraps of rubble lie in the path on both sides. In all truth, the gates to sector 03 look about the same as the rest of this sector does -- like the biggest part of the Outskirts in existence.

There's a high wall of debris even the occasional piece of original steel, from back before the Sector went to the monsters. This wall keeps most of the more dangerous monsters from getting back into Sector 03, but since no guards would willingly stand here, there's no way to know for sure.

On the 03 side, the wall is covered in tags of random graffiti in every color of spraypaint. On the 04 side, there are much fewer tags, and most are half-finished with dried bloodstains underneath. Only the desperate, the insane, or the dead lie further inside, along with uncountable masses of monsters.

After a frightened kid named Kiwi ran pell-mell towards Sector 04 without thinking, Ravik followed the youngster to just outside the gates, warning him not to go this way.

Now, he stands in front of the Wutaian, listening for anything that might charge in at them. Once he's sure nothing's coming yet, he crouches in front of Kiwi, and gets ready to explain.

"This is Sector 4. It used to be just like any of the other sectors -- a bit dirty, maybe, with all its own special things to offer. But some time ago, something happened here. Something big. Monsters got loose, there were massive fires. The whole place was destroyed.

"Now, all that's left here are a few buildings, and more packs of monsters than you could shake a stick at. I prefer a sword, meself, but even then I'd rather stay out of the way."

He pauses for a moment, then listens again, just in case. You never know when something'll leap at you in this place.

Kiwi hugged his shirts tight. Kinda scared by the guy that chased after him. Even more frightened of what he was saying. Sure, Ravik looked cool like Zane, Laith, and Aly... But something about him just creeped the kid out.

Finally he looked nerviously over his shoulder at the big, mostly empty, area of trash. Back to Rav. Started to give the impression that he's going to cry. "Monsters.. Monsters aren't real. They come in stories that my grandpa would talk about." He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths.. "This place looks safer than back in that other area with those goonie guys and that sleezie jerk. I don't wanna go back there. They'll hurt me"

After hearing the kid insist monsters weren't real, Ravik half-mumbles to himself: "Hmm... maybe 'nasty unnatural things' would work better, then -- like those scorpion-wolf whatever-they-weres..."

He has to think for a moment, though, when those goonie guys and that sleazy jerk are mentioned. "Wait, what, where? Oh... you must mean..." He coughs, covering up a nervous laugh. "You were in Number 2, then. Yeah, you don't want to be there, but then again, a place full of wild beasts isn't much better. What's wrong with staying back there for a while?"

With that, Ravik points back through the gate, towards Sector 03 again. "There's bound to be someplace you can stay, where you'll be safe."

Kiwi shrunk, if at all possible, into his shirts. Looking to the side for a second... "I don't know where to go." He mumbled almost inaudibly. Before speaking up innocently, "The only inn I found had scary people in it. And it took a cool looking guy and a Real cool looking big sister in blue to save me from that place. But then, then the cool guy told me that if I don't find a inn, I gotta sleep on the streets.."

A shiver overtook the kid, "I don't wanna sleep on the streets here. No place for a tent..."

After a point he took notice to something flashing and pretty-looking just near the gate, behind a small pile of trash. "What's that?" Slowly inching towards it.

"That?" Ravik takes a look, then chuckles at the sight. "I'd almost forgotten that was there." The familiar spinning form glowed in the dim light of the gateway. "Y'know, I've actually forgotten what they call these things, now. They're places where people set down and pray for a bit before setting out on some task. People say it brings them good luck."

He shrugs at this, adding, "I don't use them much, though. Last time I did, I kept having this strange feeling of deja vu."

Having said that, he sits down for a moment, wondering where to send the kid for the night.

Kiwi pouts a bit at this... "Oh... Here I thought it was treasure.."

He thought about it for a long moment before an idea popped into his mind. Giving a slight look to Ravik before slipping over to it. When he got close the magical glowing point gave a small 'ding' sound, which kinda surprised him. But after getting up his courage, Kiwi shuffled around his shirts and put his hands together to pray to his gods back in Wutai.

Meanwhile, oblivious to the characters, a blue window pops up, a little highlight runs through the options, then goes down to Save, and a memory card loads. The highlite now appeared over a few empty spaces. A button was pushed. The option 'Would you like to save here?' came up, and was selected 'Yes'. Up in the place of Space 1 appeared a little icon of Kiwi's and Ravik's face next to the words "Midgar, Sector 04 Slums" and "00:02:36". Two little switch noises later and the game resumes back where we were with Kiwi and Ravik.

Kiwi stops after a moment, looks down at his shirts.. and curses in Kid tongue. "Darn it! My shirts weren't fixed at all!" Before rambling to himself, "My gods aren't helpful at all..."

He comes back to the moderately cool, slightly scary guy, and watches him.

But Just then, a groan can be heard across the land. Which nearly made the kid wet his pants. He clutched his ripped shirts again and bit his lip. Tugging on Ravik's shirt.. "Can we go now?"

Kids these days, so impatient. Rather than laugh, Ravik simply smiles, then starts walking back towards Sector 03. "My thoughts exactly. Let's see if we can't find some place for you to hole up." He hopes Kiwi will just follow after, rather than run off again. Two episodes of Save Kid from Monster would be too much for one day.
