Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 - Leopold Stokowski and The Philadelphia Orchestra. ("Fantasia", 1940)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1z12_Ps-gk I have a love/hate relationship with this version. I love it because it's so beautifully animated and it's one of my favorite pieces of music.  Unfortunately, Stokowski was a rather idiosyncratic conductor so his tempos tended to be all over the place. Also; while Fantasound (the experimental multi-track sound system that Disney used to record Fantasia) was the avant-garde in terms of sound quality in 1940, so many sound editors have messed around with the soundtrack (and the original Master has apparently deteriorated to the point that it can no longer be used) that it's like listening to a badly scratched and warped record.  -------------------- Going where Angels fear to tread...
