Great Scott! Adam tees up $100M Rocky apartments
August 22, 2008

Golf great Adam Scott is teeing up Rockhampton for a future development along Victoria Parade.

A COMPANY controlled by Australian golfing great Adam Scott is the driving force behind a major accommodation development in Rockhampton.

The Morning Bulletin understands the astute sportsman's business entity, The Adam Scott Foundation, plans on starting work on a multi-million-dollar, 200-room apartment complex within the next 12 months.

The business reportedly bought the site of the former St John's Hospital in October last year for $15 million.

The site came with council approval for a major 12-storey development, previously reported as a $90 million to $100 million project.

It's believed a high-profile hotel group has been lined up to head the project.

Yesterday the site, which has been vacant for a number of years, was overgrown with grass.

It's not the only site in the area earmarked for massive expansion.

Rockhampton businessman Solly Stanton, a previous owner of the former St John's Hospital site, plans to lodge an application soon for a 20-storey unit development next door to the hospital. Coldwell Banker's Richard Vanhoff, whose agency handled the former hospital site's most recent sale, said the plan was to turn it into an "iconic building".

"It will be the first time in our region we will have one of the three big hotel banners," Mr Vanhoff said.

"They should be cutting dirt within 12 months."

Mayor Brad Carter yesterday said he'd spoken with a representative of the site's owner.

Cr Carter said he was given every indication the business would proceed with developing the site, which was "fantastic news".

He said the riverfront offered a wonderful development opportunity and he could see good times ahead.

"There is a very good opportunity for investors in our region," Cr Carter said.

Mr Stanton said his application would be lodged as soon as the design was right, within six to 12 months.

He said work had recently finished on a similar-sized high-rise at Townsville, developed by the Hedley Group.

"Things are looking up for Rockhampton," said the former owner of the Silly Solly's chain.

"When you look at the units that have just gone up in Townsville, Rockhampton is probably 10 years behind, but I think we will catch up.

"Within five to six years the riverfront is going to be the place to be in Rockhampton. There will be a great atmosphere."

Golf star Adam Scott sets up foundation to help Asian youth

SINGAPORE (AFP) - - Australian golfer Adam Scott has launched a Singapore-based Asia Foundation to offer underprivileged youth in the region opportunities to fulfill their potential.

The Adam Scott Foundation Asia will be an extension of his Australian Foundation, established in 2005.

"As I travelled the world playing professional golf and getting to live my dream it became apparent to me how fortunate I was to be offered the opportunity of following my chosen career path but not everyone has that fortune," he said.

"I believe that the giving of an opportunity may be one of the greatest gifts of all -- and that's why I set up the Australia Foundation in 2005 and wish to expand my charity now to Asia."

Scott, ranked 15 in the world, has made millions of dollars on the US Tour and through lucrative sponsorship agreements.

"Although I'm only 28 years old, I really wanted to set up my foundations now, as I don't want to wait till I'm over 50 years old to give back to the community," he said.

The Asia Foundation aims to support disadvantaged and underprivileged youth by providing grants to help them fulfill opportunities or overcome difficulties, while promoting health, lifestyle and education.

Scott said he was basing it in Singapore due to his familiarity of the country -- he has won the Singapore Open twice -- and also due to the city-state's vision of becoming a hub for philanthropy.

Congrats to Mark the recipient of the 09 AS Scholarship!

Hawley hits the jackpot with scholarship
9th February 2009

GREAT news this week, with Club Banora member Mark Hawley made the recipient of the 2009 Adam Scott Foundation Scholarship.

Club Banora members who know Mark will not be surprised by his win, as the likeable club ex-junior is only too happy to assist in any way around the club.

Over the past three years he has worked with Barry Horton in the pro shop.

He has been active in junior development, having played and then managed the Club Banora junior pennant team in the Gold Coast District pennants.

The scholarship is worth some $60,000 in education fees, so we wish Mark all the best in his endeavours - a well deserved win!

Queenslander Adam Scott has lent his support to the 2009 Cellarbrations QLD PGA Championship, announcing a new partnership between The Adam Scott Foundation and City Golf Club Toowoomba.

To be staged in Toowoomba from November 5 to 8, the 2009 Cellarbrations QLD PGA Championship will this year have a charitable component following the announcement of a partnership between the host course and the prominent Australian golfer’s own foundation.

“The Queensland PGA Championship is a special event on the state calendar and for the PGA to have the support of City Golf Club for the next three years is a great commitment,” said Adam Scott.

“I am sure the event will be a great success and we are pleased from a foundation position to be involved. Raising funds through the sponsorship of the tournament and through auctions and raffles during the event will assist to support projects in the local and South East Queensland communities.”

Great news for these 2 smile.gif

Two NTU student-athletes first to receive new Adam Scott Foundation Asia Scholarships
28-Oct-2009

The Adam Scott Foundation Asia (ASFA) has selected two talented and needy student-athletes from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to be the first to receive the ASFA scholarships. Each scholar will receive $30,000 over four years of study. This is the first time since the ASFA scholarship programme was launched in August 2009 that the scholarships are being awarded to needy students pursuing NTU’s new Bachelor of Science in Sport Science and Management degree programme conducted by the National Institute of Education.

The two recipients, both 19, are Cheryl Lim, a track & field and cross-country student-athlete (alma mater: St Andrew's Junior College) and Crystal Wee, a track & field student-athlete and swimmer (alma mater: National Junior College).

The two aspiring sports professionals previously represented their school in national sports competitions, including the 'A' Division National Championships and other tournaments. They were selected for the ASFA scholarship based on their outstanding academic results and excellent track record of co-curricular activities. Their family's household income was another factor taken into consideration.

The ASFA scholarship programme was initiated by Mr Adam Scott, a 29-year-old Australian professional golfer. Mr Scott established the Adam Scott Foundation Asia in September 2008 to create a long-term sustainable foundation that will support and offer opportunities to young people in Asia. Mr Scott and his foundation found NTU’s sports degree to be the ideal programme to support, as it dovetails with their objective to develop qualified sport professionals with relevant industry knowledge and skills.

The ASFA scholarship programme, launched in partnership with NTU, aims to give recognition to talented, deserving students who are highly motivated to excel in the professional world of sport science and management. Ideally, the scholarship will encourage recipients to stretch themselves further and pave the way for good career opportunities in future.

NTU’s Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Science and Management is the first of its kind to be offered by a publicly-funded university in Singapore. The four-year, direct honours programme aims to produce professionals with the right knowledge and skills to prepare them for a successful career in the sports sector. The programme’s first cohort of undergraduates, who began their studies in August 2009, can expect to enter a thriving market by the time they graduate, as the sports industry’s value is targeted to reach $2 billion in GDP contribution by 2015. The pioneer cohort will also be among the University’s student volunteers to host and interact with the international athletes competing in the Youth Olympic Games, with NTU as the world’s first Youth Olympics Village.

There is no bond attached to the Adam Scott Foundation scholarship. However, the award recipients are required to undergo an internship programme (in Year 4) with specific industry partners recommended by the Adam Scott Foundation. The award recipients are also encouraged to join companies or organisations as recommended by the Adam Scott Foundation upon graduation.
