Cilliby
Cilliby is a small walled fortress town, and forms the main defence against the West, though the foundations of the fortress predate the Schism by a century, and the technology used in its construction came from both sides. The smog that permeates the northern hills -- a putrid mixture of magical and industrial waste -- keeps both sides at bay, for now.

Cobae
This small farming town is the only area in the East where crops have been grown successfully. Wide areas of land east of where the canals cross are used to rear the animals that provide a staple part of the diet of the people of the East.

Phanyp
The people of Phanyp are generally fishermen, trawling the lake for the abundant freshwater fish. It's an idyllic lakeside fishing village that is mostly self-sufficient from Hel'skén, though it is slowly being modernised and made more efficient. The first steam powered boats are expected soon.

Quecha
From humble beginnings as a tiny camp of the newly formed Eastern Mining Company, Quecha quickly grew into a thriving village whose people are mostly EMC employees, exploiting the rich mountainous region. Ton after ton of ore and coal are churned out daily, and shipped away along the canal to Hel'skén and the other Eastern settlements.

Tizen Fortress
The small fortress town, precariously placed less than three quarters of a mile from imaginary line that separates the two sides and right on the Lake's edge, protects the villages of Phanyp and Quecha from Western invaders. Being placed at possibly the narrowest point of the lake, Tizen is also an ideal offensive location for mounting the perhaps-inevitable attack on the West.

The Outback
Beyond the city walls of Hel'skén and past the fields of Cobae lie the forests and plains of the East. Beware: bandits are known to roam these areas.

Targayen
The capital city of the West is notable for its achievements in the art of magic and for the beauty of the rising spires of the city. Major features of the city include the university, the temples and the palace fortress in the east of the city, and the slums on the west side.

Bridgetown
This bustling market and fishing town has grown up around the West side of the Old Bridge. The Bridge itself is still stable for several hundred yards out across the water, providing a decent offensive position. The town itself is busy, full of traders and fishermen, though there is little farming in the area.

Mount Turamoon
Turamoon Fortress sits on top of the highest peak in the Western mountains, providing an outpost to observe the East and also keep an eye out for wanderers coming from further West or the barren northlands. The fortress is manned night and day; the guards are relieved every six months to return to their families, while supplies are brought in fortnightly by horse and cart.

Kaphar is another busy market town, notable for its proximity to Targayen and the high number of magical children which seem to come from the town.

Jeply
Jeply is the biggest settlement in the West besides Targayen itself; the people here are generally relatively well-off, and the town prospers from the patronage of the lords of Targayen, many of whom consider wine from Jeply a particular delicacy, and the fabrics woven in the town a deserved extravagance.

Fahrons Plains
This great tract of land is given over almost exclusively to farming, with tiny hamlets scattered throughout. The people of the Plains have good cause to resent their lack of technology to make their hard work any easier; days are long, the work is strenuous, and with Jeply and Kaphar scoring most of the major trading contracts, the rewards are precious few.

Vikarre
The main settlement is situated right on the mouth of the south-western river, but Vikarre stretches back some two or three miles, including agricultural areas and a fast-growing new suburb by the forest, which has taken the name of its parent town. The citizens here are richer, as many of the trade contracts are exclusive to Vikarre and the Royal Palace gains many of its supplies there.

Riork
In the old days, before the Schism, Riork was as close as either side came to a luxury tourist resort. The town is still idyllic and largely the domain of the rich and fanciful, though its proximity to Tizen Fortress of the East Shore is often a cause of worry to the residents.

The Island of Ruins
The Island lies almost equidistant from the two Shores, a little north of the crumbling end of what remains of the Bridge. It is uninhabited, though a few deserted and mostly derelict houses remain, and landing there is not advised, as smugglers and dangerous bandits have been known to make their hideouts there.
