| QUOTE (PhantomZero @ May 8 2011, 04:43 PM) | | QUOTE (Nimara @ May 8 2011, 04:23 PM) | I'm not sure why you guys did so poorly. Real people or not this was pretty bad. If you treated the picture (of the person) like color palettes then you could have worked from there.
Also, why pick a person and not make a banner to highlight that person? The theme of your individual banner/grfx should fit THEM. It's not "hey let's throw on some smudging and some funny textures".
If you're not going to take the contest seriously then don't enter. Half ass submissions only hurt this contest even more and overall insult what its purpose is. It's not the theme, it's the contestants and their submissions. If you don't know what you're doing, then go look up a tutorial. God knows their are so many of them out there. |
Never making a good entry could also be considered detrimental to a contest, but in the history of GFX contests it's never been the case. What breaks the contest are people who aren't good and bash everyone else's entry. The point of GFX contests is to be good or get good. If we're not good at real people then we'll learn.
Also I think I speak for the four contestants when I say that I'm sure we didn't have that much time to take this round too seriously since it's finals week (well for me it's hell week, midterms/trimester) since we go to college. Sure not the best or even a good excuse but maybe you should take everything into consideration and jump off that high horse of yours. Also, no more discussion of this in this thread, take it to discussion thread about the gfx thread since you're not going to vote

I do take everything into consideration and I still see half-assed graphics for this round. You guys need to take more pride into your work. These are bad, because it seems like almost none of you gave any thought to this. If you did, I apologize but this is a trend that has been happening for a while.
It's about the fun too but if you're going to enter, take it seriously. We keep saying "the point of the graphics contest is to learn" which is totally true (which is why I suggested the psd files). But if none of you take it seriously, what's the point? From all the graphics contest we've had, we should be seeing better submissions. This is why I say you guys are half-assing it. You guys KNOW better. You've SEEN better. So if you're not going to "learn" and put forth the effort, then don't enter because it is a waste of your time and other people's.
It's such a small forum, everything counts these days. I am just very disappointed in you guys and have been for a while.
And, the presence of good graphics entries (or lack of) can kill a graphics contest, especially if we see no improvement. You said it yourself, it's not about being good and bad. We all know each other's work from over the years, which is why I'm bashing you guys now. I want to see what you've learned! I want to see you having fun and learning through the graphics. Not just submitting for the sake of submitting.
Now the reason I didn't enter is because of the lack of time and chaotic weeks I've been spending back home helping my parents with their work. I did not want to submit a half assed entry so I didn't enter. Simple as that.
